[Rio 2016] Nigeria defeat Honduras to win bronze

Nigeria’s U-23 team, on Saturday defeated Honduras 3-2 to win the country’s first medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil, finishing in the third-place of the men’s football competition. Sadiq Umar opened the scoring in the first half, sliding home after great work from captain Mikel John Obi. Also Aminu Umar, made it 2-0 four minutes after the restart, before Sadiq finished calmly again to extend the Dream Team VI’s lead. Honduras scored twice in the latter stages of the match, but it was not enough, as Samson Siasia’s men took the show by winning the match.

In her words: ''I am proud to have represented my country Nigeria and also proud to have represented my family.'' ''Even though I may not have really done what I planned to do. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ''Baba'' as he is fondly called has disclosed that he and four other eminent Nigerians brought President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue Nigeria from its current quagmire. Players of the national U-23 team at the Rio Games have avowed that they cannot afford to leave Brazil without the bronze medal. Their statement comes as the Nigerians take on Honduras in the bronze medal (third-place) match of the Olympics. The dream team VI set out for the Gold medal but got knocked out by Germany in the semifinal match played on Wednesday in Sao Paulo.  Mikel, who spoke to reporters several times on his bid to win the Olympic gold before returning to Chelsea, said after the 2-0 loss to Germany that as professionals, they would simply adjust their mindset and target a fresh challenge of taking home the bronze medal. Usain Bolt nailed it the ninth time earning his ninth gold medal, making Jamaica hit 'triple triple' relay Gold. The 29-year-old super athlete, adjudged to be the greatest sprinter in history, made the win with a run time of 37.27 seconds to fire up an eruption of his veneration in the Olympic Stadium. Bakare Throws Weight Behind The Change Mantra

The founder and Senior pastor of Later Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakere has urged Nigerians to refrain from referring to the change agenda of President Muhammadu as chain. He made this plea on Friday at the presidential villa where he went to pay homage to the president . Bakare, who is a close ally and past running mate to Buhari in 2011 presidential election made a call on all Nigerians to exercise patience with the current administration, saying the hard times would be past tense in no time. While assuring that the maxim of change which is the slogan of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC would not translate to chain for the people. He added that Nigeria had drifted from its positive direction in the past and needed some conscious efforts to fix it. Which he says would require some time to manifest.

Rasheed Yekini’s mother gets maid, Nurse Courtsey Saraki

Dr Bukola Saraki, Nigeria's number three citizen has extended his arms of good gestures to the Yekini's as he hired a maid and a nurse to take care of the late Rasheed Yekini’s mother, Alhaja Sikirat Yekini. The senate president, represented by the Director of Football, Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC, Alloy Chukwuemeka, disclosed this on Friday in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.  He also donated a tricycle to the younger brother of late Rasheed Yekini, Hakeem. Saraki said that he had financed the sinking of a borehole and renovated the residence of Alhaja Sikirat Yekini, upgraded her shop to a mini mart. 2016 Police Recruitment: PSC Shortlists 110,469 Applicants For Aptitude Test

The Police Service Commission, PSC, on Friday confirmed that 110,469 applicants out of the 338, 250 invited for the screening at the states and FCT Police Commands, have come out successful and therefore shortlisted for zonal aptitude test. The Chairman of the commission, Mr Mike Okiro, said that out of the 110, 469 applicants, 22, 454 were shortlisted for Cadet ASPs, 24, 456 for Cadet Inspectors and 63, 559 for Police Constables. The former IG stated that aptitude test for cadet ASPs for both general duty and specialists will begin on August 22 while that of Cadet Inspectors for both general duty and specialists will hold on August 23, adding that the test for police constables for both cadres would take place on August 24. Document and physical screening of specialists is scheduled for August 29 after they will have taken the aptitude tests. Tension Mounts, Davido Lands N7m Concert Fee Dispute

Music artiste Davido, popularly known as O.B.O who was named among the artistes to perform at the Festival of India, which took in Lagos on Saturday, was vividly absent. The organisers of the show made it clear that Davido was duly invited. Sources disclosed that the contract between the Festival of India and the artiste could run into N7m. Reports also says that Davido informed them on Friday night, a day to the event, that he was indisposed to grace the event. However, the organisers have accordingly communicated Davido’s lawyers on Thursday (yesterday) night,as they hope to get a refund of the fee said to have been paid for the star's gig. News media says all efforts to speak with the artiste or his manager proved abortive as a call to his manager’s phone number and a subsequent text message had not been replied as of 8pm production time on the show night.

Iheanacho Lands New Contract At City

Kelechi Iheanacho has landed a new contract with Manchester City. The star signed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2021.
