Violent Man Forced Wife To Shop By Hot Water Baptism

John Wheldon, aged 49 chanted 'beef beef beef' and 'shop shop shop' before landing hot water over his wife when she wouldn't go to shop at Asda for him. It was reported that the same man last October attacked his wife after he started shouting at her while she was lying on the bed in their home at Willenhall, near Wolverhampton.
This time around he walked into the room and threw something at her, continuing to shout “beef, beef, beef” - before changing to “shop, shop, shop”.
Wheldon’s wife said that she wouldn’t go to the shop for him, and that’s when he came at her with a kettle of hot boiling water. After baptizing her with the hot water he insisted and prevailed on her to take him to the shop and despite being in excruciating pain she took him to Asda.
On returning from Asda to their home, Wheldon continued to chant “beef, beef, beef” until he took their dog for a walk. Once he had left the home his wife called for an ambulance.
The police came too and after he returned he was arrested - despite attempting to make a run for it.
Despite leaving his wife with burns from her neck to her waist and to her arms, he initially pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to causing her grievous bodily harm with intent.
And his trial was already far-gone before Wheldon finally changed his plea to guilty
He served a six-year-jail-term and nine months by Judge Stephen Eyre QC who also imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting his wife, except through solicitors, or going to the address.
Prosecutor Simon Hunka made it clear that the couple had been in a relationship for 16 years and married for 15, but it was said there had been incident of him being violent, and there were occasions when they separated but got back together.Wheldon, who suffers from bipolar disorder, had been behaving erratically in the days before the attack.
Wheldon blatantly denied throwing anything at his wife, describing himself as her “avowed protector” and would not acknowledge the pictures of her injuries when he was shown them.
