Anambra Rice In Full Circulation; Sells N9,000 As Against N24,000 Foriegn Rice

As the price of rice continues to skyrocket following the new economic policies, the business-minded people in the South-east have orchestrated mass production of a subsidized local rice which is now in circulation.

Online sources has reported that the Anambra State rice is now in circulation in Awka Market, Onitsha, Aba, Abakaliki, Uyo, and are currently selling at N9,000 per bag as against the N20,000-N24,000 which other foreign rice currently sells in the market.

The Willie Obiano-led Anambra State government, has reportedly avowed its increasing efforts to close the gap in Nigeria’s rice production and emerging as the third largest producer of rice in the nation making efforts to shift its revenue source away from crude oil sales.

Every sector is troubled. The fact is, Nigeria moves one step forward and reverses by five steps backwards. We have had more political crises, debt servicing issues and turbulence in the oil sector to deal with, than the number of positives. Even the presumed economic successes recorded would last momentarily, we should expect de javu. The issue of high inflation now at 12.4 percent, fluctuation in the foreign exchange market, and fall in revenue is preparing to revisit, if we fail to implement strong economic policies.

Be that as it may, the Anambra rice could be seen as a welcome development; a right step in the right direction towards diversifying the oil-centered economy.
