Claims That IGP Is Fraudulent Is “Completely false” - Police


The Nigeria Police Force on Sunday vehemently debunked news making rounds in the public domain alleging that the Inspector-Gener of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotun have so far indulged in massive looting and violation of public trust.

The report pointing the accusing finger on the IGP stemmed from a story published  on Saturday by SaharaReporters.

Be that as it may, in a statement released by the force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah regarded the report as “news item that has no substance and completely false'' while calling on the general public to disregard the report, calling it malicious and misleading.

 The statement read : “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a report by Sahara Reporters, New York on August 26, 2016 captioned Inspector General Idris accused of Massive looting, violation of public trust,”

 “The Nigeria Police Force would ordinarily not join issue on news item that has no substance and completely false, but to put the record straight;  the report was studied and all the allegations asserted against the Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni and the Nigeria Police Force in the write up were found out to be completely false, misleading and malicious in its entirety, and obviously the hand work of distractors and mischief makers, whose intention is to distract the Inspector General of Police from carrying out its statutory duties of ensuring that Nigeria is secured and crime free.

 “The Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni have served in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force and International Communities without blemish. The IGP is focused and determined to accomplish his statutory responsibilities to all Nigerians and continue to serve his country and will not be distracted by  distractors who take advantage of the media to launch a personal attack and campaign of calumny against his personality and the Nigeria Police Force.

 “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to enjoin members of the general public and other persons who must have read the report to disregard and discountenance the story as totally unfounded without any iota of truth.

 “The media, most especially the new/social media outfits are hereby implored not to allow malicious/ mischief makers to take advantage of them to misinform and mislead the public. The Nigeria Police Force will continue to partner with the media, other stakeholders and the general public to ensure that Nigeria is safe for every Nigerian and visitors alike.”

My pastor forced me to sell stolen car –Suspect

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a car-theft and robbery suspect, Olawale Olabinwonu, while attempting to sell a stolen vehicle. Olabinwonu, an administrative officer of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad while trying to sell a Nissan Sentra, 2015 model. The vehicle, whose number plate was changed, had been placed on an online shopping platform, where it was advertised for sale. Police investigators had, on seeing the advert, called the contact on the website to indicate interest. A man, who took custody of the car where it was parked in the Lekki area of the state, was said to have been arrested. The suspect, however, denied ownership of the car and subsequently led detectives to Olabinwonu’s residence. Olabinwonu was reported to have packed out of the house with his family after sensing danger. He was, however, tracked to a church in the area where he was arrested.
