Football Legend Pele Set To Visit Nigeria 22nd September


75-year-old Brazil football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, will be in Nigeria on a two-day visit on September 22.

The superstar was initially scheduled to arrive in August, but the trip was postponed on health grounds. Pele was named among those to light the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony of this year’s Games, but withdrew only few hours before the event at the Maracana.

This historic visit, will be Pele’s second time in the country, after he first came 50 years ago. The two days of his visit will focus on the development of football and the Nigerian youths. There will be a celebrity exhibition match and exclusive dinner with selected guests.

I Won’t Represent Nigeria Again If Things Are Not Done Differently

Nigeria's weightlifter Maryam Usman has alleged that Nigeria is not ready to win Olympic medals. In her words: ''I am proud to have represented my country Nigeria and also proud to have represented my family.'' ''Even though I may not have really done what I planned to do. I appreciate God for making me go through the competition injury-free.'' ''So, that I think is the ultimate; I really thank God. The competition was fine. I really don’t talk about it because it makes me so emotional''.'' Reacting to claims that Nigerian athletes do well when they prepare well, Usman said ''I disagree with that. This is an event people have been preparing for, for four years.
