Big Brother Naija, The Mess & The Message

The call for the banning of the popular Tv reality game show, Big Brother Naija seems to be on the increase with each passing day.

Many concerned individuals are of the opinion that with the rate and manner at which lewdness and raunchiness is been promoted in the BBNaija house in SA, the next generations will be in for it.

Study has shown that the vast majority of audience who are following the reality TV show back-to-back are the young people. These youths love the show which is arguably entertaining and littered with adult episodes.

Shades were recently thrown at a Port Harcourt based clergyman who laid curses on the organizers and sponsors of the game show saying that "if the sponsors of the show attempt to air the show next year, their resources will dry up''. What came after was just colossal. The pastor's remarks mopped up vituperation on the social media. Many BBNaija viewers like ace comedian Seyi Law attacked him squarely.

There is an exponential increase in the number of voices who are now speaking up against the ills that the housemates display live on national TV, on a second-to-sencond basis, 7 days a week. Some concerned individuals are beginning to reach out to the federal Government in what many believe is a pragmatic step to halt the looming epidemics of moral decadence that may engulf the Nigerian youth, should they begin to imbibe the trends and copy the deplorable lifestyles of the BBNaija housemates who are clearly out in the game for the 25 Million Naira star prize and the fame that comes with it.

In a recent development, Hon. Olusegun Olulade, a Lagos State lawmaker and member representing Epe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has called on the federal government to reconsider the implications of allowing the Big Brother Naija Show on the Nigerian culture and youths.

The Chairman, House Committee on Health Services, Lagos State House Of Assembly decried the lewd contents of the Reality Show, While pointing out that the contestants were completely foreign to the indigenous culture, which the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was trying to promote.

Olulade has urged the government to swing into action through the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and ensure it stopped the airing of such programme before it further caused serious damage to the culture.

In his words:

“The content of Big Brother Naijashow is alien to our culture. This show is contrary to the rich cultural values we are trying to promote and bring to the front burner. It is sad that our young children including adults are made to watch such content.

“This kind of programme promotes obscenity and immorality. We must not encourage such if our hallowed cultural heritage would be preserved. We cannot prevent our inquisitive young ones from watching the obscene displays that permeate the show.

“I think the NBC should, without delay, stop this programme if this government means business in the promotion of our cultural values. The show does not add any value to our education, social and economic life,” he said.

Olulade, also advised the Federal Government to ensure adequate censor of information being aired and sent to the public, noting that such programme as Big Brother Naija was capable of causing distractions to the Nigerian youths and affecting many families.

“I will want to urge all parents and guardians to be on their guards and guide their children and wards against the implication of allowing them to keep watching the Show. Our children should not be allowed to be corrupt because this may affect their dreamed future,” he added.

While many will disagree with the likes of Olulade, there are also a large number of people who share the same stance with the lawmaker. As entertaining as BBNaija is, it will be important to remind ourselves of the contents that made people begin to 'cry wolf' about the popular show.

The Raunchiness

Fan-favourite Bisola who is frolicking with Thin Tall Tony (TTT) as their romance deepened is having an increasing disfavour with viewers who started out liking her on the BBNaija show. Her romantic involvement with Tony is topping the news chat on a daily basis.

Bisola who went on to have s*x with TTT twice on live TV is obviously not aware that the guy is married with two kids. Those defending Bisola's sexual escapades with Tony in the house are of the opinion that the mother of 1 most likely doesn't know about TTT's marriage or family.

In a recent development, the Nigerian Single Mothers’ association written an open letter to Bisola in other to address what they believe is a shameful act on her part.

A lady identified as Funmi Akinyode who is a member of unique group called 'Nigerian Single Mother's Association', recently wrote a letter to Big Brother Naija Housemate, Bisola for giving a married man and father of two, Thin Tall Tony (TTT) a mouth action (BJ) live on TV.

Dear Bisola, we the association of single parent are disappointed with your act on national TV few days ago.. I followed you because of your presence on social media. Anytime I go through your page whenever am tired from work or bored, I can't help but laugh and still praise you...

When I now found out that you are a single mother and doing well for yourself with over 100,000 thousands loyal followers I said to myself, Funmi, when will you get here?.

After what you did, I wonder what you do on a good day when no one is watching. While you were giving someone a head on national TV, weren't you thinking of throat cancer? Don't you love the daughter you hustling for that much how she will feel when she grows up? (Even the so-called married man doesn't even know if you have epileptic diseases and he left his private part to a total stranger..) after 10 years when your princess is all grown up, someone somewhere will bring this act of yours, and she will never forgive you for this stupid act.

Bisola, once you are a mother or father, your life, and what you do doesn't belong to you 100percent.. again. You must live a good legacy for your children to follow. What will you tell little princess if she comes home and tells you she gave someone she just met at a party a BJ when she grows up?

Bisola, I dunno know how you were brought up but your life can be better, and you can make it better than your parent.

Dear Bisola, the deed has been done. When you get out of big brother Nigeria, just go to GOD and ask him for forgiveness he's ever faithful and merciful. He will cleanse all sins and make your part straight again.. Just keep doing what you good at.. Make us laugh again.. GOD loves you and am still a loyal fan.

Asides the raunchiness, the other striking features that is trendy in the BBNaija house at the momemt is the 'lies' and the 'fakeness'.

The Fakeness and Lies

TTT is frolicking with Bisola who likely thinks she is in love because he lied to her in the first place. Recall, TTT openly told Bisola that he is a single man "By The Grace of God". This singular statement has garnered baskets of trolls for the father of two. The social media went agog as BBNaija viewers registered and tweeted their disapproval for TTT's lie on live TV.

Similarly, recently evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Gifty after her eviction hurridely took to the social media to apologise to singers Falz and Banky W for her remarks about not knowing them, after they made guest appearances on the BBNaija house in South Africa.

Gifty took to Instagram to pen down an apology note for her remarks which trended and eventually garnered trolls and vilification for the former housemate.

The alleged one-time hairdresser affirmed that contrary to the rumours making rounds that she was married, she was never married. Gifty also disclosed that none of the housemates is aware of Thin Tall Tony's marital status, saying that Bisola will be so sad when she finds out.

What is your reaction to ruomurs that you used to be a hair dresser in Anambra state?

I am not a hair dresser, I have never made anybody’s hair for money. I just love learning, I watch people do something and I pick it up. The uniform photo was from a movie scene.
 
What parts of you in the house was a fake?

Some parts of me like the romance, kissing and accents were fake. It was part of my game plan before I entered the house.

There was a time you told your fellow house mates you are a virgin, how true is this?
Saying I was a virgin was also part of the game plan. I am not a virgin. I have had ex boyfriends so definitely, I am not a virgin.

What about your education, you claimed to have good grades

I studied Theatre Art in Ghana, had good grades and yes, I graduated with a first class

There were also rumours that you were married for few months and also an actor came out to claim he is your boyfriend
 
I have never been married before. Would love to get married in the future though but I have never been married. As for the boyfriend, he is an actor and that photo was from a movie, He played as my husband and I played as a foreigner. There is no relationship between us. I even called him and shouted at him. I asked him why he would post such a thing.

Are you in any relationship?

I was in a relationship before I went into the Big Brother house but broke up with him a few days before I traveled for the show. I didn’t want to break his heart because I knew my game plan was going to be very nasty.

What is actually going on between Bisola and Thin Tall Tony?

Bisola and Thin Tall Tony have a thing. I'm just imagining how Bisola will react when she finds out that he is married.
 
Does any of the housemates know Thin Tall Tony is married?

At a point, I suspected he was married because of the way he answered me when asked him if he was married. One day, two of us were in the kitchen and I asked him 'are you married?' he hesitated before saying no he is not. I also asked him if he has a girlfriend and he said no. Thin Tall Tony is serious game player but Bisola is truly falling for him and it’s written all over her. She would be very sad when she finds out he is married.
