Pepsi Set Out To Cut Down On Sugar In Its Beverages

In 2015 almost half of PepsiCo’s $63 billion in revenue came from beverage sales alone. However, Pepsi says its out to cut sugar from its beverages. The company on Monday disclosed that two-thirds of its single serving drinks will have 100 or fewer calories by 2025 as it cuts back on sugar in its beverages while also pointing out that less than 40% of its drinks contains 100 calories or fewer currently.
The beverage company maintained the much needed change is coming on the heels of new dietary guidelines from the World Health Organizationand and shifting consumer needs.
Pepsi made public its resolve to quit using aspartame as an artificial sweetener due to declining sales and health concerns as scientific surveys have linked artificial sweeteners to diabetes and obesity.
Heretofore, PepsiCo could not keep the pace as it reintroduced aspartame to some products in September, citing consumer demands as a reason. Coupled with its commitment to cut calories in its sugary drinks over the next 10 years, Pepsi also said it would reduce levels of saturated fat and sodium in the majority of its products.
