World's Longest Serving Monarch And Thailand's King Dies At 88


Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej has died at 88 years. Adulyadej who was greatly revered in Thailand and was until his pasing renowned to be world's longest reigning monarch, ruled for 70 years. Bhumibol Adulyadej was crowned king on May 5, 1950.


His ill-health over recent years has been a point of distress for many countrymen as he was loved by his people and was hithertho seen as a stabilizing figure in the country. The late king had only made a few public appearances since his health quagmire ensued in recent years.
Thailand's prime minister Prayuth Chan-ochahas disclosed that the nation will embark on a year-long mourning period for the deceased king while stating The Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will step in to occupy the thrown as the new monarch.

The monarch's demise comes as Thailand remains under military rule following a coup in 2014.
