Captain Neymar steps down


Brazil national and Barcelona forward Neymar has stepped down as captain of the national side after firing them to Olympic gold in amazing home win on Saturday night at Rio, Brazil.

Brazil won the gold medal match against Germany after Neymar struck a 25-yard free-kick and then slotted home the winning penalty in a shoot-out.

In his words;  “Today I stop being a captain.'' .

“I will send a message to Tite  (Brazil’s coach)  that from now he can look for another captain. Today I have become a champion and I give up the captain’s armband. It was something I received and honoured with affection.”

While declearing the Olympic gold as one of the best moments of his life, as he sent a packed Maracana into raptures. Brazil won 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and Neymar was the man to get the perfect finish.

“This is one of the best things that have happened in my life. That’s it,” he said.

“Now my critics will have to shut up.

“I can’t begin to describe my feelings. I have fulfilled my dream and to have fulfilled it in my home country makes me very proud.” he added.
