Liverpool will 'fight for everything this season

Jurgen Klopp watches on from the technical area

Jurgen Klopp argued Liverpool are ready to ‘fight for everything this season’ after seeing his team overrun Barcelona to claim an emphatic 4-0 International Champions Cup victory at Wembley.

In front of the second-highest crowd ever to attend the new Wembley, Liverpool cruised to the win against the Spanish champions with goals from Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, Marko Grujic and an own goal by former Anfield midfielder Javier Mascherano.

And with Liverpool not distracted by European competition after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Klopp claimed his team can fight for the title after this result.

"We shall fight for everything this season,” Klopp said. “We need to be ready. It’s not a case of pressure, we are just ambitious, but everyone else is ambitious too. So it will be an interesting league we have to fight and I know we will be ready, but I don't know where we will finish.”

Klopp, who revealed James Milner would undergo a scan on heel injury which saw him limp out of the game in the first-half, admitted that beating Barcelona was a major boost for his team psychologically.

But the Germany refused to suggest that the success placed Liverpool ahead of Barcelona in terms of quality.
