7 reasons football fans are devastated with the Man United line-up at Wayne Rooney's testimonial

1.Every football fan knows testimonials are meant to be entertaining.
When a clubs dedicates a one-off special event to a long-serving player, the match should feature all sorts of silliness. Celebrity cameos, goalkeepers taking penalties, overweight legends wobbling around the pitch they once graced with style…It's a simple, highly effective formula.
Which is why we were VERY disappointed when we saw the line-ups for Wayne Rooney's testimonial.

2.The Class of 92

2.The Class of 92
No doubt David Beckham would have been otherwise occupied with some ambassadorial task in a far-flung country, and Nicky Butt had left United before Rooney arrived. But Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs?
If the Indian Futsal League is good enough for (two of) them, they would definitely have been up for appearing in an Old Trafford kickabout.

3.Rio Ferdinand being something other than a pundit

As anyone who saw Rio's World Cup Wind-Ups in 2006 will confirm, Ferdinand lives for the BANTZ.
If anyone could have livened up events at Old Trafford with a few cheeky nutmegs or some deliberately funny fouls, it would have been the legendary United defender.
Instead, he's on the touchline, doing BT Sport punditry.
BAH.

4. Tim Howard… playing up front

As someone who played for both Man United and Everton - and both for and against Rooney - the American keeper should be involved. More importantly, in terms of testimonial 'banter', Howard would almost certainly have been up for playing a half in goal for one side… and then going up front for the other.
IT'S A TESTIMONIAL, PEOPLE.

5.Roy Keane vs Duncan Ferguson comedy brawl

Persuading Roy Keane to take part might have been tricky, but Rooney's hero 'Big Dunc' would surely have wanted to play if asked.
Just imagine those two going up against each other again.
A very deliberate foul from one. A very deliberate reaction from the other. Some WWE-style choreographed brawling. It could have been wonderful.

"Hi Wazza. Sorry I can't be there, but I know you'll have a great night… wink, wink!"
