PDP CONVENTION: I’m contesting to give youths a voice — Igban

Mr. Andrew Igban, former Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta South Senatorial District, in this interview, explains why he is gunning for the position of National Youth Leader of the party among other issues.

Why do you want to become the national youth leader of PDP? I have always found myself in the company of people with the desire to work for the well being of others and the progress of the society. I have held several appointive and elected positions in youth bodies, church, my community, local government and state, the most recent was in our great party, PDP where I served as the party’s Youth Leader in Delta South Senatorial district for two tenures.

During this period I was able to galvanize the younger generation where I belong. It is on record that in my time as the PDP youth leader, there was no part of the Delta South Senatorial district that did not record overwhelming victory in elections. You know the strength of the youths in any election and that strength can only be harnessed when you have a leader that commands respect. So the party succeeded because of the collective efforts of all the stakeholders. You know that the desire of our members is for the PDP to return to its glorious past. We need committed and well motivated youths to achieve this. The party needs a youth leader with total commitment to serve and not to be served. It needs a leader that will give the youths the leadership that is devoid of inconsistency and galvanize them to work for the progress of the party. I have those qualities.

Hence I am offering myself to serve as the PDP National Youth Leader. What are the new things you are bringing to the table if elected? A lot of things seem to have gone wrong in the party. The party requires total reform. Many are aggrieved and for that reason resolved to be playing anti party politics. There are many who left but because the All Progressive Congress, APC, many of them want to return but need encouragement. I envisage that our party will be great again. So it is not about bringing new things, it is about the future of the party. Do you think the party as presently constituted has a level playing field? We made mistakes in the past and I strongly believed that everyone that desire the progress of the party and the good of the country have learned a lot and will want us to move forward.
