Facebook Finally Adds Hausa, Fula To Its List Of Languages Hitting 100


Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg on Friday added Hausa, Fula and two other languages to the social media platform.
Recall he made the plegde to add Hausa to the language list of the social media network the last time he visited Nigeria.

Zuckerberg while announcing the addition said it would make Facebook more appealing to users around the world.

In his words: “Facebook is now available in more than 100 languages — with more than one billion people using a language other than English! Today we added Fula, Maltese and Corsican.”

  “Our community makes this possible. Over the last decade, hundreds of thousands of people around the world have worked together to find the right translations for words and phrases in the Facebook interface. Because the idea of a “Like” in English may mean something different in Arabic or Japanese.”

 ”For people to share what matters to them and see what matters to the people they care about, they need services available in a language they know. Some of the languages we’ve added don’t have meaningful presence on the internet.”

 “Others, like Corsican, are in danger of disappearing altogether, according to UNESCO,” the billionaire CEO said while explaining his reasons for the addition.

With the recent additions, Facebook is now available in 100 different languages.

Man kills himself, two others in Imo

The Imo State Police Command, in eastern Nigeria, has confirmed the death of three persons at Akokwa community in Ideato Local Government Area on Friday. DSP Andrew Enwerem, the Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the incident said others sustained injuries. He explained that an unidentified man, said to be from the northern part of Nigeria, had run amok and killed a girl and a woman and thereafter killed himself. He said some aggrieved youths immediately went for reprisal attacks, leading to some other persons sustaining various degrees of injuries. Enwerem said the Commissioner of Police, on receiving reports of the the incident, deployed anti-riot policemen who stopped the incident from spreading further. “Report to police showed that a yet to be identified northerner ran amok at Akokwa community and used weapons to attack and kill a girl and a woman and thereafter killed himself’’, he said.
