Drama As Arewa Youth's Quit Notice On The Igbos Raise More Dust: Nnamdi Kanu Yet To Utter A Word

Heavy rumbles and discordant tunes has continued to trail the call on the Igbo's in the north to vacate the region by the Arewa youth's. Some Nigerian leaders hitherto appeared to be silent over the burning flames created by the quit notice.

Acting President Yemi Osibanjo before now remained silent over the issue which has largely dominated the public space. Osinbajo who is currently in Awka, the Anambra State Capital for a one-day working Visit to the south eastern state, had emphasized the need for unity in diversity while speaking on Saturday, at the wedding of a daughter the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande in Ibadan. He also called on all Nigerians to embrace peace and unity and ignore attempts by ethnic champions to disintegrate the country.

his words:
“Today is a special one for the couple. Marriage is a very large institution that requires a lot of prayers. It is the same marriage that nations go through.

“Our nation has been in marriage for a while now. Sometimes there are quarrels within that marriage. Sometimes there is disagreement. What is important is that you must remain together. You must remain united.”

Nnamdi Kanu Would Rather Not Say A Word

The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOP) has also been on the mute mode over the entire brouhaha.  Nnamdi Kanu’s silence over the quit notice many believe is tactical. Some quarters argue that northerners are trying to provoke the Igbo’s, IPOB into calling back Igbo’s in the north to their homeland so that declaring a state of Biafra by the Igbo's as they return may trigger a dreaded military action on the South East again as was seen many decades ago. These claims however remained unverified.

Kano Law Maker Adding Gasoline To Already Red Furnace

A serving member of the House of Representatives from Kano State has openly thrown his weight behind the quit notice order issued by the Coalition of Northern Youths on the northern-based Igbos to vacate the region before 1st October, 2017.

Hon. Aminu Suleiman, who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Education, believes that Igbos have held Nigeria to ransom through their secession threats and other activities.

In his words:

“I have read the statement of the Northern Youths Coalition. I may not completely say I share their vision 100 per cent; but they have found a supporter in me, because the people of eastern Nigeria have taken this country to ransom.

“They have been causing serious problems to this country; they caused the civil war, which brought backwardness in this country. They have been using provocation to attract more attention than other parts of the country,”
he said to the press.

Suleiman also seized the moment to blast some northern leaders, especially the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, who ordered the arrest of the northern youths. He believes the Kaduna governor was playing to the gallery by making such others.

“People like el-Rufai just played to the gallery. I condemn him entirely for coming out to issue arrest warrant against the northern youths.

“Where was el-Rufai when IPOB and other secessionist groups in the South East were calling for secession?
he added.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode Calls For the Arrest of Arewa Youth Leaders.

Outspoken PDP Chieftain and ex Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined voices to others who are calling for the arrest of those involved in the Igbos-quit-the-north treat. FFK called for Ango Abdullahi to be arrested or “all hell will break loose” on October 1.

According to his recent tweets, Fani-Kayode queried why there were no Christian commanders in the Nigerian Army. He however called the Arewa youths “rebellious, recalcitrant and bloodthirsty dogs”.

His tweets:

“Why is that there are no Christian commanders (i.e. those that have operational control over troop deployments) in the Nigerian Army today?

“If this govt. does not arrest Ango Abdullahi and those rebellious, recalitrant and bloodthirsty dogs called Arewa youths and lock them ALL.

Obasanjo Has Something To Say, As Always...

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is notably known for always bearing his mind on burning national issues as it comes. He recently warned those calling for the disintegration of the country to desist from such utterances.

He made this made this call in Makurdi, Benue state over the weekend. The ex President pointed out that those singing songs of war were doing great disservice to the unity of the country.

He however, avowed that despite imperfections in the system, Nigeria remained a great country with lots of potentials.

Noting that the imperfections should be corrected, and the unity of the country was the responsibility of all.

In his words:

“None of us should be tired of doing our best for this country. I have confidence in Nigeria and we all should.

“Those who keep singing the songs of disunity, whether young or old, are doing this country a great disservice and should desist. And those who have led this country at any level in the past have greater responsibilities to ensure the country works, rather than singing songs of disunity and war.

This is coming at a time when a coalition of Northern Youths gave Igbos a three months ultimatum to vacate their region. The dust raised by this is yet to settle.

Recall, several groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, are calling for the division of the country.
