Army Set To Use Drones In Edo Guber Election


The Nigeria Army has on Tuesday made public the possibility of deploying drones during the Edo State governorship election slated for September 28. This coming as part of efforts to ensure a hitch-free exercise across the state.

Brig-Gen Raji Benbela, the Commander of the 4 Brigade Command, disclosed this in Benin during a show of force organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other paramilitary forces.

In the vein, the Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, dad earlier assured voters that adequate arrangements had been put in place to protect their rights to excercise their franchise in the poll.

 Benbela affirmed that the drones would be used to provide aerial surveillance in the 18 local government areas and expose the activities of hoodlums.

In his words, “In addition, (the) governorship election is around the corner and the Nigerian Army, in its constitutional responsibility in support to civil authority, has ‎a duty to protect lives and property of citizens.

“This is what informed the decision to organise this exercise in collaboration with sister security agencies, with a view to giving the electorate the confidence to exercise their franchise.”

''Soldiers would be deployed in key locations to forestall any interference with the electoral process.” he assured.
