ENUGU: Ugwuanyi To Release Extra N310m For Council Election

Counting down to November 4th local government election in Enugu State, The State Executive Council has approved the disbursement of additional N310.23 million for the conduct of the Local government elections.
Mr Ogbuagu Anikwe, who is the Commissioner for Information disclosed this on friday on Friday in Enugu while speaking with jounalists on the outcome of the exco meeting which held theprvious day.
According to him, the approval was sequel to a request made by Prof. Mike Ajogwu, the Chairman, Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC). As the said amount would be used to purchase sensitive election materials, ballot papers and election forms.
He added that it would also cover the cost of transportation, security, publicity and payment of honoraria and allowances to full time and ad-hoc staff who would be deployed for the exercise.
It is however on record that on July 19, the state executive council had before now approved the release of N25 million to ENSIEC as take-off funds and for the purchase of non-sensitive materials.
Anikwe said the council also approved the reconstitution of the executive management committees of local government areas affected by the forthcoming council election.
Infomation reaching us has it that the chairmen of the caretaker committee of some local government councils won their party’s nomination for the poll. While there are 17 slots for the chairmanship position, 260 councillorship slots would be up for grabs at the poll.
Political activities in the state seems rubost at the moment as supporters of the two leading parties are seen holding congresses and tours in pockets all over the 17 local councils in the state. Some people believe it wont be business as usual as the opposition parties are making waves in their own strides.
