Jammeh To Stay Extra 3-Months as Gambia's Leader
Reports making rounds, has it that Jammeh has landed a 3-months extension as President of the country following the resolution adopted by Gambia's apex legislature, (Gambia's National Assembly) which allows the incumbent leader to remain in power for another three months, beginning from today being Wednesday the 18th day of January 2016.
Recall, Jammeh tabled some petitions before the Nation's Supreme Court asking the court to void and possibly rerun the 1st December 2016 Presidential Election, while also seeking a restraining order to stop the swearing in of the President-elect, Adama Barrow billed to take place in the country on Thursday. Be that as it may, these petitions have not yielded any fruit as Judges were reportedly unavailable.
ECOWAS kept trying to douse the tension
The embattled President of The Gambia who has ruled The Gambia for 22 years, and is currently facing forceful evacuation from office following his decision to hold on to power. Jammeh who initially acknowledged opponent Adama Barrow as the winner of elections in December, recently changed his mind, rejecting the poll count and arguing that the whole process was flawed.
On several strides, ECOWAS has attempted resolving the issue by convincing Jammeh to step down, yet mediation efforts remain inconclusive.
Meanwhile, the African Union announced it will cease to recognize President Jammeh as Gambia’s legitimate leader as of Jan. 19, when his mandate expires. The decision by the AU’s Peace and Security Council warns Jammeh of serious consequences if his actions lead to the “loss of innocent lives” and calls on Gambia’s security forces to exercise restraint.

As the crisis deepens, the Vice President Gambia alongside 7 ministers have resigned ahead of 19th January due date for the expiration of their Boss's mandate.
Vice President Isatou Njie-Saidy resigned on Wednesday, same day as Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, Technology & Religious Affairs, Abubacar Senghore, who is the eighth cabinet member to leave the government this year.

Gambia's President-elect, Adama Barrow on Sunday lost his son just few days to his swearing in. The Eight-year-old boy, Habibu Barrow reportedly died after being bitten by a dog and had since been laid to rest. Barrow who is away in Senegal could not attend his son's funeral.

Adama Barrow Stands His Ground; Insists He Must Be Sworn in Tomorrow
Adama Barrow, a real estate businessman turned politician, has maintained that January 19th remains the date for his swearing in as the Country's leader. According to Barrow's tweets this morning, he wrote;
”We made history on the first day of December. Our future starts tomorrow”.
Barrow is currently in Dakar, Senegal where he was adviced to stay for his safety. Leaders of the regional bloc ECOWAS have affirmed he would be sworn in tomorrow in Gambia, which invariably means that they would drive away President Yahya Jammeh whose tenure expires midnight today.
The ECOWAS leaders, in a mediatory efforts led by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari failed to convince Jammeh to voluntarily leave office after losing the 1st December presidential polls to Adama Barrow.
